This Privacy Policy explains how the Zakat Ledger and Payments mobile application (“the App”) handles information. Please read it carefully.
1. Summary
The App is designed to be privacy-first and offline-first.
- No user account or sign-in is required.
- Financial details you enter are stored on your device.
- Calculation and payment note payloads are encrypted on your device.
- The App does not include analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or subscription / in-app purchase systems.
- Optional network requests are limited to anonymous metal-price and currency exchange lookups. Your wealth figures are not sent with those requests.
2. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to anyone who installs and uses the App on a compatible iOS or Android device.
The App is a personal Zakat companion for calculation, record-keeping, education, and local reminders. It is not a bank, payment processor, fatwa service, or cloud accounting product.
3. Information the App stores on your device
The App stores data locally using on-device databases and preference storage. Depending on how you use the App, this may include:
3.1 Preferences and settings
Language, appearance (light / dark / system), currency, madhhab (school of thought), Nisab method, metal price source preference, accessibility options, optional display name for greeting, reminder preferences, Hawl / planner preferences, onboarding completion state, and similar configuration.
3.2 Calculations and vault history
Zakat wealth calculations and Zakat al-Fitr calculations you choose to save, including titles, notes, eligibility metadata, and encrypted calculation payloads.
3.3 Portfolio
Asset records you create (categories such as cash, bank accounts, gold, silver, business inventory, investments, property, receivables, and related fields). Portfolio records are stored locally.
3.4 Payment ledger
Local records of Zakat payments you log against a calculation (amounts, methods such as cash, bank transfer, charity, mosque, online, or other, and notes). Payment amount and notes payloads are encrypted on your device. The App does not process or transmit money to third parties.
3.5 Hawl planner
Hawl start information, timeline events, monthly wealth snapshots, and annual history you generate in the planner.
3.6 Knowledge activity
Bookmarks, recent searches, and recently viewed educational articles. Article content ships with the App for offline reading.
3.7 Calculator drafts
In-progress wizard drafts may be saved locally so you can continue later.
3.8 Cached market data
Cached gold and silver price entries and related metadata used for Nisab context and metal valuation when you choose live or cached pricing.
3.9 Encryption key material
A device-local encryption key used to protect encrypted payloads is stored in the platform secure storage facility (Secure Store / Keychain-class storage on supported platforms).
4. Encryption
Saved calculation payloads and payment amount/notes payloads are encrypted on your device using AES via on-device cryptography libraries. The encryption key is generated on the device and stored in secure platform storage.
Other local data (for example preferences, portfolio assets, planner tables, and price cache) may be stored without the same payload encryption. Device-level protections (passcode, biometric unlock of the device) still apply according to your operating system settings.
5. Information we do not collect
Based on the current App implementation:
- No account registration, login, or profile server
- No cloud synchronisation of financial data
- No analytics or tracking SDKs that report usage behaviour
- No advertising networks or personalised ads
- No in-app purchases or subscription billing identity
- No sale of personal information to third parties
- No remote push-notification service that uploads a push token for marketing (reminders are scheduled locally on the device)
The developer does not operate a backend that receives your Zakat calculations or portfolio details.
6. Optional network activity
Internet access is optional for core calculation, vault, portfolio, payment ledger, planner, knowledge, and Fitr flows.
When you are online and have not disabled live prices, the App may make anonymous HTTP GET requests to:
| Service | Purpose | Data sent |
|---|---|---|
Minted Metal price feed (mintedmetal.com) |
LBMA benchmark gold and silver spot prices | No user financial data; anonymous request for market prices |
Open Exchange Rates–compatible FX feed (open.er-api.com) |
Convert USD metal prices into your selected currency | No user financial data; anonymous request for FX rates |
You may choose cached prices only in Settings so the App does not contact these services for price refresh.
If you open the in-app Privacy Policy link, your device browser may load that page using normal web networking outside the App’s local storage model.
Network connectivity status may be observed on the device (for offline indicators) without uploading your financial data.
7. Permissions
7.1 Notifications
If you enable Hawl / Zakat reminders, the App requests notification permission to schedule local reminders on your device. Reminder content is generated and scheduled locally. Disabling notifications or denying permission does not prevent you from using calculation and record-keeping features.
7.2 Internet
Used only for optional live price / FX refresh and opening web links you choose to open.
7.3 Other system capabilities
The App uses standard platform capabilities required for local storage, secure key storage, haptics, fonts, and UI. Biometric app lock is not offered as a product feature in the current version. Camera, contacts, precise location, microphone, and photo library access are not part of the App’s Zakat features.
8. Third-party software and SDKs
The App is built with Expo / React Native and related open-source libraries for UI, navigation, localisation, local databases, secure storage, and local notifications.
Not used for data collection in the current product: advertising SDKs, product analytics SDKs, crash-reporting SDKs that upload financial content, social login providers, and payment processors.
Optional third-party network sources for market data are described in Section 6. Those services receive anonymous market-data requests only, not your entered wealth.
9. Advertisements
The App does not display advertisements and does not integrate advertising networks.
10. Subscriptions and purchases
The App does not offer paid subscriptions or in-app purchases in the current version. There is no premium billing identity collected by the App.
11. Accounts and account deletion
The App does not create online accounts.
Because there is no server-side user account, “account deletion” is handled by deleting data on your device:
- Delete calculation history
- Delete all app data (calculations, favorites, reminders, drafts, and related local content, while keeping some preferences depending on the action you choose)
- Reset the application (erase data and restore defaults, including encryption key material as implemented by the reset flow)
These controls are available in Settings → Data management. Uninstalling the App also removes on-device App data according to the operating system.
12. Data retention
Data remains on your device until you delete it, reset the App, or uninstall the App. There is no cloud retention period because financial records are not uploaded to an App backend.
Cached metal prices may be refreshed or replaced when you use live pricing online.
13. Sharing and exports
You may choose to share calculation summaries, Fitr results, or knowledge article text using the device share sheet. Sharing is user-initiated. The App does not automatically publish your vault.
User-facing backup export / import is not offered in the current Settings interface.
14. Children’s privacy
The App is intended for adults who manage Zakat obligations. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. It does not include social features, accounts, or advertising aimed at children. If a guardian believes a child has entered sensitive information on a shared device, they can delete App data from Settings or uninstall the App.
15. International users and GDPR-oriented principles
Although the App does not operate a cloud profile of users, the following principles apply to on-device processing:
- Lawful, transparent purpose: calculation assistance, local record-keeping, education, and optional local reminders
- Data minimisation: only what you enter or generate for those purposes is stored locally
- Storage limitation: you control deletion and reset
- Integrity and confidentiality: encrypted payloads for calculations and payment notes; secure storage for the encryption key
- No sale of data: not applicable—no data broker relationship exists in the product design
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, note that the App’s design avoids transferring your financial inputs to the developer. Optional anonymous market-data requests may contact third-party endpoints described above; those requests do not include your wealth figures.
16. App Store and Google Play disclosures
Privacy nutrition labels and Data safety declarations should reflect this policy:
- Financial calculation data stored on device
- No developer collection of personal financial telemetry for advertising or analytics
- Optional anonymous network use for market prices / FX
- Local notifications only when enabled
17. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the App’s data practices change (for example if a new network feature is introduced). The “Last updated” date at the top will change when revisions are published. Continued use after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
18. Important limitations
The App assists with personal Zakat calculation and record-keeping. It does not provide legal, tax, or religious rulings. For complex circumstances, consult a qualified scholar or advisor.
Metal prices and FX rates, when fetched, come from third-party sources and may be delayed or unavailable; the App falls back to cached values when possible.
19. Contact
This document intentionally does not publish email, telephone, or postal contact details. For store-related inquiries, use the support channel provided on the App’s Apple App Store or Google Play listing.
